Well, a little late, but better late than never.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Delved into the world of Blackberry. I have had a cell phone for about 10 years but barely ever used it. I still rarely talk on the phone (even on a land line) but I'm a serial Blackberry user now.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My resolution last year was to stay more organized and declutter. I don't think it was something I did on a daily basis but I certainly did a lot of it at the end of the year. My resolution for 2010? Hmmm, to exercise regularly and keep healthier habits in general (e.g. sleeping enough, healthy habits, etc). Exercise helps my stress levels immensely so that is a huge reason too. I'd also like to get the basement in better shape for that eventual day we decide to finish it off.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but I know sooooooooooo many people due in 2010. And I am soooooo glad NOT to be one of them.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My maternal grandmother, Nanny in late March 2009. :(
5. What countries did you visit?
None.
6. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No particular date - but Caroline's first few days of kindergarten are fairly remarkable and memorable. Also when my MIL proposed doing daycare for us - we certainly weren't expecting a gift like that.
7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Successfully breastfeeding baby #3 for a year! Getting Caroline ready for and acclimated to kindergarten. Navigating the public school system as a parent for the first time.
8. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think I really failed at anything except maybe getting into some bad habits.
9. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully no real health issues. Just kid sicknesses and a bunch of colds. Hoping to continue that trend since your health is one of your most valuable assets!
10. What was the best thing you bought?
I didn't buy it, but Jason did - my Canon XSi! I am so happy with it! Oh and my Blackberry. I love that thing!
11. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Probably all 3 kids - they all did pretty well this year with Caroline entering kindergarten and doing really well, Bryce starting to go to "school" on his own, and Ms. Piper coming into her own.
12. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one made me feel that bad!
13. Where did most of your money go?
Daycare, gas, and groceries - this doesn't change although we're spending considerably less on daycare now that Caroline is in school and my sweet MIL/FIL are doing daycare. We insist on paying them but it's still much less than we were paying.
14. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Not having to have all 3 kids in full time daycare!!!
15. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I've Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas and Fireflies by Owl City
16. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
Probably a little happier. I am done with the exhausting infant stage of Piper which including breastfeeding and pumping and while I'm a little sad she's growing up so fast, that extremely intense time is now behind me. To say I HATED pumping is an understatement.
17. Thinner or fatter?
Heh. Definitely not thinner. Going from breastfeeding to not breastfeeding is hard since you don't realize how many calories you burn doing just that. I need to get back to NOT eating like I was at that time and exercising more. I was in good shape before getting pregnant with Piper, so I can do it again.
18. Richer or poorer?
About the same - and that is just fine!
19. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise! Vacation!
20. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying (I seem to say this every year)
21. How did you spend Christmas?
6 different places - quite a whirlwind
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I'm already there.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Same as last year with the inclusion of my newest obsession - Dexter. OMG, I love it so much but after the season 4 finale I almost wish I knew nothing about it. I'm still haunted by it and can't wait for September for season 5. I've never had a show affect me like this.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is a very strong word, so no.
25. What was the best book you read?
I don't even know if I read anything memorable this year. I know I read a book or two in the summer but they were obviously lackluster to have no memory. I will have more time to read in the future when my children don't interrupt me so often. Plus, I can't exactly read at work.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I wouldn't say it's a discovery but I do find that Lady Ga Ga to be pretty catchy. I'm not exactly a fan, but I have enjoyed a lot of her songs this year and I like her unique performances. Totally marches to the beat of her own drum and that's rare these days.
27. What did you want and get?
My Canon!!!
28. What did you want and not get?
Nothing really - that's pretty nice.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Hangover - definitely. Wasn't even that aware of it when I went to see it with my mom and sister which I think added to my surprise enjoyment of it. Totally hilarious and a good memory. Liked it so much, I took Jay to see it a few weeks later and gave it to him for Christmas.
30. What did you do on your birthday?
Dug out of 20 inches of snow and went out for lunch with my family and parents at Red Brick Station. A quiet and nice birthday.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A 2nd week down in the Outer Banks!
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Lands End - I love you. Pretty bland - just trying to stay as neat and together as possible for work.
33. What kept you sane?
Jason, of course. Oh and Facebook and blogging.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Probably one of my eternal favorites, Howard Stern. Love that guy!
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Nothing really. Politics make me ill because it is mostly a bunch of people who don't know how to do anything except be a politician and make ridiculous policies and compromises that just add more red tape to our already confusing laws. They make all these promises that they have no way of actually making happen. The sensationalism of the media surrounding politics is even worse.
36. Who did you miss?
My maternal grandmother, Nanny, who died. And my paternal grandmother, MeeMaw, who was in the hospital over Christmas and is still there recovering.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I know I met some new people this year but none that I'm very close to.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Keep remembering how much you will miss your kids at these sweet ages when you are tired and want a break.

Year in Review - 2008
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Had a 3rd baby!
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My only real "resolution" last year was to get through my 3rd pregnancy while mothering 2 kids and to survive the transition from 2 to 3 kids. Check! My sort of resolution for 2009 is to stay more organized around the house and declutter.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
ME!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Jason's great grandmother in February.
5. What countries did you visit?
None.
6. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 14, 2008 - Piper's birthday - such a very sweet day
7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Managing 3 kids (one a newborn), a full time job, and not going completely nuts.
8. What was your biggest failure?
Probably not seeing the writing on the wall earlier that my old daycare provider was losing interest in daycare.
9. Did you suffer illness or injury?
LOTS of colds and 2 stomach viruses, but Bryce had a head laceration in March and a broken arm in August and that was quite tumultous
10. What was the best thing you bought?
Well, not bought, but started paying for - DVR!!!
11. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Piper's! She's such a sweet and even tempered baby that puts up with her siblings antics.
12. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My previous daycare provider, but that's in the past now and everything ended up working out for the better.
13. Where did most of your money go?
Daycare, gas, and groceries
14. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Finding out we were having a girl in February and Bryce finally starting to potty train in December 08
15. What song will always remind you of 2008?
LoveBug and Burnin' Up by the Jonas Brothers, Keep Bleeding by Leona Lewis, and Low by Flo-rida.
16. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
My own life is very full right now of good things and I'm very lucky to have such a wonderful family so I'd say probably a little happier. The rest of the world seems to be in a difficult place right now so that kind of brings me down, but I have hope with this new administration coming in a few weeks that things will start to improve. Not necessarily because of the actual things the administration will do but it will brighten people's outlook because it is such a change and things will start to turn up for everyone. Positive thinking....
17. Thinner or fatter?
Thinner - ha! Not being pregnant plus trying to keep up with 3 kids will have a natural weight loss effect on you!
18. Richer or poorer?
Poorer (but hardly poor), but that's just because we pay more in daycare!
19. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Just enjoyed the kids instead of constantly worrying about the next task that needs to be accomplished.
20. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying
21. How will you be spending Christmas?
The same as usual
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Yep, with my new baby girl.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Grey's Anatomy, The Office, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, Deliver Me
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is a very strong word.
25. What was the best book you read?
I only read 2 or 3 - so the best of them was The Last Summer of You and Me by Ann Brashares
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I'm so late to the game with music, I'd hardly call anything I listen to a discovery!
27. What did you want and get?
A Wii! (Thanks Jer!)
28. What did you want and not get?
A new digital SLR camera - just not in the budget right now. Gotta start saving.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I think it was released last year, but I didn't see it until this year - Waitress with Keri Russell - so great!
30. What did you do on your birthday?
Went to Charleston with Jason and had ostrich as one of my courses.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
That Peapod by Giant would finally start delivering groceries to my zip code. Seriously, it would dramatically improve the quality of our life!!!
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Maternity through July and then whatever the hell is left over in my closet from the past 8 years that I've picked up between pregnancies. Plus a lot of clothes that don't fit very well thanks to some weight loss. Seriously, I gotta get this wardrobe updated!
33. What kept you sane?
Jason and my mom
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Is it sad to say I'm kind of fascinated by the whole Hannah Montana/Jonas Brothers thing? You can tell what I've watched a LOT of this year, huh?
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The economy
36. Who did you miss?
Probably my maternal grandmother. She's still alive but with severe dementia in a nursing home - I feel as though she's already gone.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Piper!
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
To take a deep breath and let things work themselves out. You can't control everything. Having 3 kids and all the chaos that goes along with it has really taught me that even if it's still hard to just let go. Having multiple children and being happy means embracing chaos sometimes. So you plan as well as you can and then just go along and try to enjoy the ride.

I'm slipping into the lava and I'm trying to keep from going under..... (Yes, that's a Jonas Brothers lyric, I'm not embarrased to admit that it does sum up my life right now.)

Christmas Quiz
More on the weekend in a bit, gotta fill out this survey that Erin posted on her blog. :)
When do you start Christmas shopping? mid-November
Are you finished shopping? Heck no, but usually I'm more ahead than I am this year. But I have a shopping blitz day planned for later this week. I should be able to finish!
How many people are you buying for? I guess like 20?
What are you leaving out for Santa? Cookies and milk, I'm sure. I don't know if we'll leave anything for the reindeer or not. I'll leave it up to the kiddies.
Name 3 things you want for Christmas: A full night's sleep until 7:30am with NO wake ups at all. While I'll be very appreciative of anything anyone gets me on my list, there's nothing that I can say that I am really hoping will be under my tree on Christmas morning. The closest I can come up with are new shoes for work. Fun, I know.
Are you traveling this year? Nope, it's great having family close by!
What kind of stockings are hung at your house? I have a hand knit one from my childhood that my MeeMaw knit for me, Jason has a quilted one that I think his mom made him as a kid, and Caroline, Bryce and Piper have beautiful personalized LLBean ones my mom got them for their first Christmas.
Do you have a fireplace/ chimney? A gas fireplace, so no chimney. The kids don't quite understand that yet, so I think they think Santa comes in that way. Or maybe they haven't thought about it. But when they do realize it, we'll just show them The Santa Clause b/c I think that is the best way to describe how Santa comes into houses w/o chimneys! Love that!
Favorite things to get in your stocking? Jason usually neglects my stocking, but I'm over it. I like fun little things that you'd just never expect. Usually I stuff the kids' with stuff from the Target dollar bins.
Any family traditions? Christmas Eve at Jay's mom's house and Christmas afternoon at my mom's. I think as the kids are getting older now, we'll start doing some more. It's hard when they're this little and don't quite get it.
What foods does your family have every year at Christmas? Nothing in particular - I'm not in love with traditional holiday fare of turkey, mashed potatoes and such - I like food with a lot of pizazz. Feliz Navidad anyone?
Who is the most fun to buy for? Definitely the kids and probably my mom.
Who is the easiest to buy for? Same as above!
Who is the hardest to buy for? Jason's dad
Who gives the best gifts? Jason and my mom
Any movies/specials you have to watch every year? Home Alone, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Charlie Brown, and Christmas Story

What kind of tree do you have? Artificial, pre lit. I grew up always having a real tree and in 2005, Jason convinced me to get an artificial. I cried when we bought it and wasn't particularly thrilled when we put it up. But, I'm soooo over it. I love it. We put it up early, don't have to rush to take it down, don't have the mess of watering it and needles everywhere, and we don't have to string lights on it. Yes, I miss the smell, but other than that, I do not miss real. And a good Balsam and Cedar Yankee Candle does a pretty god job of faking it. In 2004, we had to take our tree down the day after Christmas b/c the stand broke one morning, the tree started falling over and water leaked and stained the carpet. Taking down a tree the day after Christmas was so depressing. I think that is what convinced me. I keep saying that one day we'll start getting a real one for the deck and then decorate it with cranberries and such, but so far we haven't. Maybe next year? (I always say that.)
What are your 3 favorite ornaments on your tree? My 1980 Hallmark Frosty Friends ornament from MeeMaw (it's worth a LOT of money now - but that's not why I love it), my first Hallmark Christmas ornament circa 1976, and Jason's #10 Brother ornament. (It was one his brother or sister got him as a kid - it originally said #1 brother - but someone got mad at him and now it says #10 Brother. Ha!)
What adorns the top of your tree? Nothing
Do you collect anything Christmasy? Hallmark Keepsake ornaments - my MeeMaw always got us one each year and now my mom gets one each year for the kids.
Can you name all 9 reindeer? Of course!!!! Did you know it's Donder and not Donner?

What's your favorite Christmas drink? Silk Soy Nog
Do you like Eggnog? See above...Only the soy stuff, the other stuff makes me gag thinking about the fact that there are real eggs in it. It doesn't need eggs for the flavor, if you ask me. Soy nog is awesome!
What flavor candy canes do you like? old skool, true peppermint. Not wintergreen or any other nasty flavor.
When do you take your tree down? The weekend after New Years - I'm usually done with it by then.
Is Christmas still magical for you? It was until a few years ago. Now with 3 kids, I just have so much to do and know that Christmas makes more work for Jay and me. I want to get into the magic for the kids and I'm really trying, but it's hard. I'm doing better than I was a few weeks ago though. I watched Frosty with the kids last night and really enjoyed how much they enjoyed it.
What is your favorite thing about Christmas? Christmas lights on houses, candles in the windows, jingling bells, a week and half off work!
Do you donate at Christmas time? nothing regular
Do you make sure to remember the TRUE meaning of Christmas? Well, the real question should be what is the "true meaning" first of all. Yes and no. We are not religious (by choice), so we are not celebrating it in the sense of commerating Christ's birth, but we celebrate it in a secular way. However, that does not mean that we do not value the season for the togetherness, giving, and goodwill toward others. Those are values that transcend religion. Plus, my kids will be taught about Christian Christmas since it's important to understand other people's religions and the basis for the holiday. But I think it's also important to note that Christmas was initially celebrated in December (historians believe Christ was actually born sometime in March) to coincide with the pagan holiday of Winter Solstice as a way of attempting to bring more people into Christianity and assimilate into an already existing and loved holiday. How many nativity scenes do you have in your house? We have the FP Little People set that the kids love complete with the "Baby Cheezus" as the kids call him. It sits along side the FB LP Christmas Village set under the tree. They start asking for it as soon as Halloween is over!

Do you like Eggnog? See above...Only the soy stuff, the other stuff makes me gag thinking about the fact that there are real eggs in it. It doesn't need eggs for the flavor, if you ask me. Soy nog is awesome!
What flavor candy canes do you like? old skool, true peppermint. Not wintergreen or any other nasty flavor.
When do you take your tree down? The weekend after New Years - I'm usually done with it by then.
Is Christmas still magical for you? It was until a few years ago. Now with 3 kids, I just have so much to do and know that Christmas makes more work for Jay and me. I want to get into the magic for the kids and I'm really trying, but it's hard. I'm doing better than I was a few weeks ago though. I watched Frosty with the kids last night and really enjoyed how much they enjoyed it.
What is your favorite thing about Christmas? Christmas lights on houses, candles in the windows, jingling bells, a week and half off work!

Do you make sure to remember the TRUE meaning of Christmas? Well, the real question should be what is the "true meaning" first of all. Yes and no. We are not religious (by choice), so we are not celebrating it in the sense of commerating Christ's birth, but we celebrate it in a secular way. However, that does not mean that we do not value the season for the togetherness, giving, and goodwill toward others. Those are values that transcend religion. Plus, my kids will be taught about Christian Christmas since it's important to understand other people's religions and the basis for the holiday. But I think it's also important to note that Christmas was initially celebrated in December (historians believe Christ was actually born sometime in March) to coincide with the pagan holiday of Winter Solstice as a way of attempting to bring more people into Christianity and assimilate into an already existing and loved holiday. How many nativity scenes do you have in your house? We have the FP Little People set that the kids love complete with the "Baby Cheezus" as the kids call him. It sits along side the FB LP Christmas Village set under the tree. They start asking for it as soon as Halloween is over!

My House
1. When you walk in your front door, which room do you enter? the foyer, but we usually enter through the garage/laundry room
2. Do you have a dishwasher? yes!
3. Is your family room carpeted or does it have hardwood floors? Carpeted but we want to tear that up some day
4. Do you keep your kitchen knives on the counter or in a drawer? The more frequently used ones are on the counter and the lesser used ones are in a drawer.
5. House, apartment, duplex or trailer? house
6. How many bedrooms is it? 4
7. Gas stove or electric? electric, but I wish we'd chosen gas sometimes
8. Do you have a yard? yes, with a deck and rather nice playground (and VERY dry grass)
9. What size TV is in the family room? 27 inches, I think - Jason will always give me crap about not getting something bigger when we could have. Sorry Jay!
10. Are your plates in the same cupboard as your cups? Nope
11. Is there a coffee maker sitting on your kitchen counter? Yes - a grind and brew
12. What color is your home painted?? outside it's white - inside it's all different (greens, red, blue, lavendar....)
13. What room is your computer in? what is technically the living room
14. Are there pictures hanging in your family room?? Yes - of the kids, seascapes.....
15. Are there any themes found in your home?? The master bath is aquatic, Caroline's is lavendar dragonflies, and the nursery is green/yellow turtles.
16. What kind of laundry detergent do you use?? ALL Free and Clear (I hate when my clothes smell perfumey!)
17. Do you use dryer sheets?? No - we use Downy Sensitive w/o fragrance
18. Do you have any curtains in your home?? No, valances, window boxes and mini-blinds for the most part
19. What color is your fridge?? White - another thing we regret. Shows kid dirt too easily
20. Is your house clean?? Not as clean as I'd like. It never will be with little ones.
21. What room is the most neglected?? I wouldn't say neglected but the master bath goes longest without a cleaning.
22. Are the dishes in your sink/dishwasher clean or dirty?? Dirty b/c Jason emptied the clean ones at 5:30am this morning
23. How long have you lived in your home? About 4 1/2 years (where does time go?)
24. Where did you live before?? In Catonsville at UMBC - I was a resident hall director there.
25. Do you have one of those fluffy toilet lid covers on your toilet?? Nope.
26. Do you have a scale anywhere in your home?? Yes, it's in the kids' bathroom linen closet
27. How many mirrors are in your house?? 7

29. Do you have ceiling fans? Yes, 6 of them - I'd like one in the living room too.
30. Are you planning on moving anytime soon?? I don't think so - we love our house. And I hate the thought of moving and starting over. We're just starting to get things how we want them. Of course, sometimes the surrounding area leaves a bit to be desired.
