Pudding = Special

Every so often as a kid my mom would make us instant pudding and put it in these pretty little crystal goblets and surprise us.  (The same crystal goblets cats eat out of in those stupid Fancy Feast commercials.)  I always remember feeling like it was so special and what a treat it was to see my mom pull that yummy treat out of the fridge and to eat out of fancy goblets.

So last night, I made the kids some good old instant vanilla pudding (with a sprinkle of chocolate chips) and served it up in these cute sundae cups I keep hidden away for "special" occasions.  Well, the reaction I got from the kid was pretty much the same as it had been for my siblings and me all those years ago.  Such excitement over a little pudding and special serving dishes!  Bryce kept telling me how much he loved me.

What's funny is that Jason's mom did something similar for them.  She used these cute little Tupperware dishes that Jason said she only used for special pudding nights.  Jason remembers she would put a dollop of whipped cream in the center sometimes too. In fact, she has since given them to my kids and they now play with them all the time in their little kitchen.

So I guess serving pudding in special dishes is a family tradition.  It makes me wonder if a lot of people do this for their kids since both of our moms randomly did it too.
